About Iyengar Yoga
Who was B K S Iyengar ?
Born on December 14, 1918, in Bellur, Karnataka, India, and passing away on August 20, 2014. B K S Iyengar was the catalyst and main instigator of bringing modern yoga to the western world. He dedicated his life to teaching and developing his method and his legacy is worldwide.
The Iyengar Method. What does that mean?
Precision . When you practise with precise instructions you can understand how the body works very clearly.
Alignment. When you practise yoga poses with the correct skeletal alignment, the muscles, bones and organs are strengthened and nourished in the most effective and beneficial way.
Stability. When the precise instructions are followed and the alignment is in place, you can feel stable in the poses and hold them for longer and longer. This is known as ‘effortless effort’.
Why should you trust Iyengar yoga teachers ?
The standard is set. The training is rigorous. An Iyengar teacher understands yoga as Iyengar intended. A teacher must practise and receive training every year that they teach. Teachers are incredibly supported and truly feel part of a worldwide community.
